Following the recent spate of burglaries in Thornwood Common and the surrounding area a meeting has been arranged between local residents and Police Officers from 4 departments including a Crime Reduction Officer.  Please come along and voice your concerns and ask any questions.

Is it for Thornwood only, or is it to cover Epping as well? I am assuming it's a Thornwood one given the spate of crime, but Epping's also had it's fair share recently.

Thornwoodmum & Admin, i'm not sure of the answers to your questions as it isn't me who has organised it but if you don't mind waiting i'll get some more details asap.

It's just Thornwood.  Epping is being treated differently.  They are on very different scales Admin.

Hi Admin & Thornwoodmum,  Here's the latest info i have got from a flyer that will be going around Thornwood hopefully today and tomorrow.

EPPING POLICE MEETING WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS
Thursday 25th March 7.30 pm Thornwood Village Hall, Weald Hall Lane.

In view of the number of burglaries in the Thornwood area in the last couple of weeks we decided that as residents we wanted to have a meeting with the local area Police to discuss ways we can increase our security and be more vigilant.  Now we want to extend this meeting to anyone who lives in the area who wishes to attend.
The meeting is free to attend but donations would be welcome (say 50p per household) to cover the costs of the hall hire.  A collection box will be available on the night.

There is also a contact name & number on the flyer but for obvious reasons i am not posting that information on here.

I'll be there. I'm sick and tired of the vermin scum coming into Thornwood and taking what they want. The amount of crime I've seen in the past 2 years in Thornwood is more than what I saw in the 27 years I lived in Chigwell. Something is seriously wrong.

Completely agree with everyone so far.  Why should we all work hard to live in pleasant surroundings and lowlife's seek to destroy it all by taking what isn't theirs?

Unfortunately though council and Police resources are tight, we are probably going to have to resort to, "if you want something done, do it yoursef".  By this I don't mean go round slapping anybody who looks suspicious, flog them through the streets until they admit their guilt to a crowd of law abiding citizens outside the town hall-although that particular method does sound appealing at the present moment in time!

I mean take a common sense approach. If you're around during the day walking the dog or taking the kids out take your mobile phone.  If you see anything suspicious phone the Police.  Personally I would let the suspicious person know that they've been seen by giving them a deliberate look or stare. Pretend you've noted their vehicle details.  If you feel vulnerable doing this then don't, just call the Police when you're around the corner. The main thing is DON'T put yourself in danger.

The same applies when returning home in the evening from a night out, report anything suspicious. You're not doing anything wrong by reporting suspicious incidents or persons to the Police.  They are unable to do anything if they are not aware of what is hpening. If we need to good people of Thornwood lets become a pain to the Police and local authority. Report everything that is, or appears to be genuine!
