EPPING: Mass brawl in High Street
Epping Forest Guardian - 26|09|09
http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/4651136.EPPING__Mass_brawl_in_High_Street/?ref=mc

TWO men are in a serious condition in hospital after a mass brawl broke out in Epping High Street in the early hours of this morning.

A total of eight men were initially rushed to hospital following the incident, which happened outside the 195 Club at around 2.25am.

Police are still at the scene this lunch time carrying out forensic work.

Officers have arrested a 46-year-old man from Harlow on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, but stress their investigation is still on-going.

A police spokesman said those injured were aged in their early and mid 20s, and were from the East London area.

Six of the men injured were released from hospital earlier this morning.

EPPING: Two men stabbed in High Street brawl
Epping Forest Guardian - 28|09|09
http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/efnews/4652674.EPPING__Two_men_stabbed_in_High_Street_brawl/?ref=rss

AT least two of the men injured in Saturday's mass brawl in Epping High Street were stabbed, the Guardian can reveal.

More details are emerging today about the large-scale fight, which is believed to have started outside nightspots Club One9Five and The Edge at around 2.25am.

Police have now said a total of 13 men had to be taken to hospital following the mayhem, even more than previously believed.

And the Guardian understands at least two of those were stabbed.

Officers have confirmed there were a "number of knife injuries" but have been unable to say exactly how many.

A police spokesman added that those taken to hospital were treated for a mixture of wounds and lacerations caused by a "variety of weapons."

Many more "walking wounded" were also hurt, but did not need hospital treatment.

It is thought at least 20 men were involved.

Some people have also contacted the Guardian claiming a group of men arrived at the scene in a van and were armed with knives and screwdrivers, although this has not been confirmed by police.

The status of two men who suffered "serious" injuries in the incident is currently unknown, but the emergency services are expected to provide an update on their condition later today.

MOTHER - MY SON'S FACE NEEDED 20 STITCHES

A mother of one of those injured, who did not wish to be named, said her son had needed 20 stitches to his face after being hit by a bottle in the chaos.

She said: "He's got a cut right down his cheek all the way to his mouth. And he's got to go back to hospital again because his eye is in a bad way.

"He doesn't remember much of what happened. He was just out having a drink with some friends from Walthamstow celebrating a birthday when he got hit on the back of the head. It is very worrying that something like this could happen, especially if knives were involved."

The woman said police had taken some of her son's clothes for forensic work as part of their investigation, and had yet to return them.

Officers remained at the scene for most of Saturday carrying out further investigatory work, and their enquiries are still on-going today.

AMBULANCE SERVICE - THREE WERE INJURED IN THE NECK

A spokeswoman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We received several emergency calls to the High Street from 2.28am, and our first resource was on scene in about four minutes with five other crews and a manager appearing to have been dispatched as well.

"At least three [of those injured] suffered neck injuries, at least two suffered facial injuries, [and] one patient was described as having been unconscious.

"Some patients were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, others were taken to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.

"[This was] a very involved incident which needed a great deal of liaison with police on scene, and receiving hospitals, to ensure patients were dealt with as safely and quickly as possible."

Many of those injured are thought to be from Walthamstow and Chingford in East London, and aged in their early to mid 20s.

POLICE LAUNCH APPEAL FOR WITNESSES

Meanwhile the 46-year-old man from Harlow who was arrested following the fighting has been bailed by police until December 21.

He had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Police have also today launched an appeal for witness to the brawl, which they are describing as a "large-scale disorder".

Anyone with any information about the incident, which happened at around 2.25am on Saturday September 26, is urged to contact Harlow CID on 0300 333 4444.

I personally believe it is time to take One 9 Five's licence away. However, as the owner owns a number of establishments in Epping and knows all the right people, I doubt there is any chance of that happening.

So, I guess we should get used to the idea of Epping becoming the next Romford!

It's quite funny - I'd been out in Hertford on Friday night with my husband saying how uncomfortable it was there now in some of the bars with the attitudes of some people, and how it's not like that in our nice little Epping, then we wandered up the High St on Sat morning and saw what we assumed to be the remnants of a fight.  And now seen on the news sites what actually happened.  How wrong we were on Friday night!  Sadly, alcohol is very much to blame...

What other places does he own in Epping then?  I didn't realise that.

He (Steve Andrews) owns One 9 Five (obviously) and The Piano Lounge. He owned One 9 Five Bar and I believe despite the recent name change and refit he still owns that also.

I've just left a comment on the Guardian site. Mad inner-city stuff coming to Epping. Well, it's worse than average inner-city stuff, they would be more worried about being shot than do this. There's discussion that cocaine has something to do with this and I'm inclined to agree. It's absolutely rife nowadays and goes hand in hand with the reasonably affluent, decent disposable income social drinking scene as it allows you to drink for much longer and (as far as they see themselves) be socially more extrovert and a happier person. Also makes people think they are on the top of their game and that could go hand in hand with a fight quite easily.

Either way it's bloody awful to read this. How can they stop it though?

I felt absolutely sick reading this.  I'm confused though, I thought 195 was the pub building near to the petrol station?  But it seems that it's down an alleyway on the opposite side of the road?  I know the police were out on Saturday asking questions as my daughter works in one of the shops there and told us about it.  I'd always thought Epping to be a very safe place.  Am so upset to hear what's happened.

Club One 9 Five is where this all happened (Cottis Lane). Bar One 9 Five now known as MF Boudoir, is what used to be the Half Moon pub (next to Shell petrol station).

They were going to open a second Piano Lounge in hertford, but I've just seen that they now aren't due to licensing problems.  Wonder if Hertford have got tough and have decided they've had enough of all the problems these places can bring?

Didn't realise he had such a monopoly in the town.  Can't say I've ever been to any of the places though!

Thanks for that, had not realised there was both a Club and a Bar 195.  My clubbing days are long gone...

NIGHTCLUB One9Five has had its licence suspended following the weekend's mass brawl in Epping High Street.
Epping Forest Guardian - 01|10|09
http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/efnews/4660606.EPPING__Nightclub_loses_licence_after_night_of_violence/

NIGHTCLUB One9Five has had its licence suspended following the weekend's mass brawl in Epping High Street.

The popular nightspot was told this morning to shut down by Epping Forest Council after a request by Essex Police.

A total of 13 people were taken to hospital following the "large-scale disorder", which happened at around 2.25am on Saturday (September 26) outside the club in Cottis Lane and in the High Street.

Witnesses have told the Guardian how a gang of men turned up at the scene in a van armed with knives and screwdrivers, and began randomly attacking drinkers.

There have been conflicting accounts of what sparked the violence, but today the owner of the Edge Bar, which is next door to One9Five, said his premises had nothing to do with the disturbance.

A spokesman for Epping Forest District Council said police had made the application over concerns about ?serious crime and serious disorder?.

The owners of One9Five have objected to the suspension, which means the council will meet again next week to review the decision.

The club's licence remains suspended until the hearing, but so far no date has been set for when it will be held.

No-one from Club One9Five has been available for comment.

Meanwhile the Guardian understands one of those seriously injured in the rampage was stabbed in the throat with a screwdriver, and was initially judged to be in a life-threatening condition by medical staff.

The unnamed man, in his early 20s, had to have an emergency tracheostomy operation after the attack left him unable to breath.

He is to remain in hospital for at least four more weeks but is expected to recover.

A 46-year-old man from Harlow was arrested and bailed till December on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the mayhem.

Police have been unable to confirm whether anyone else has since been arrested.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to the violence to come forward to help with their inquiries.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Harlow CID on 0300 333 4444.

The nightspot had its licence suspended yesterday morning after the weekend's mass brawl in Epping High Street, which left 13 men in hospital.

The hearing forms part of the council's licensing sub-committee meeting, which is to be held at 10am in the authority's civic offices in the High Street.

The suspension was made at the request of Essex Police.

No-one from One9Five has been available for comment.

EPPING: 'Brawl' nightclub licence hearing called off
Epping Forest Guardian - 05|10|09
http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/efnews/4664240.EPPING___Brawl__nightclub_licence_hearing_called_off/?ref=rss

A HEARING to decide the fate of a nightclub at the centre of allegations surrounding a mass brawl in Epping High Street has been called off at the last minute.

Councillors were due to consider Club One9Five's licence this morning, but legal representatives for the nightspot are believed to have requested an extra 48 hours to prepare their case.

A new hearing will now be held on Wednesday (October 7) at 2pm.

It comes after the large-scale brawl outside the club in the early hours of last Saturday (September 26), which left 13 men in hospital and many others with minor injuries.

Several were stabbed during the violence.

Club One9Five's licence was suspended last Thursday (October 1) and it will remain closed until the hearing.

The suspension was made on the request of Essex Police over concerns about "serious crime and serious disorder".

Epping Forest District Council are expected to comment later today on the reasons behind the delay to the proceedings.

No-one from Club One9Five has been available for comment.

A 46-year-old man from Harlow was arrested and bailed till December on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm following the mayhem, but police enquiries remain on-going.

Two men who were seriously injured in the violence are expected to make a full recovery.

Anyone with any information about the brawl is urged to contact Harlow CID on 0300 333 4444

Dinner celebrates 60 years
Everything Epping Forest - 02|10|09

"A DINNER to mark 60 years of Epping Forest Chamber of Commerce was held at the Piano Lounge in Epping High Street.
Special guests included Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing, patron of the Chamber, and Heather Thirtle, its long-standing former chairman and current president. . . ."

I think this helps to demonstrate what I was saying earlier about Mr Andrews connections. The Piano Lounge plays host to a number of events like this.

I would put money on One 9 Five not losing its licence.

Very interesting stuff there. Ok, fancy a small wager with winnings to a charity of your choice?

My reckoning is licence denied until new conditions met, so not opening again immediately but within 2 weeks to a month.

Do you think it will open straight away?
